Photographer's Note

January, bright sunny day, 8 degrees perhaps - positively hot! Just walking along one of Gent's busy shopping streets, can't remember which (but if someone like Bob Vandenbroucke - 'puntos' - sees this, perhaps he can tell me) when I spotted this arty wall beside the river Leie that you can see in the bottom right. Apparently it's well known in Gent, but more of its significance I can't tell you. I surmise that the images represent well known stories of Gent life. I simply liked the view and went snap with my FZ5. Perhaps there's a bit too much sky with nothing in it. But I like the brightly coloured buildings behind, backing on to the river, just as much as the painted wall. Melbourne must be the graffiti capital of the planet; most of it is nothing but asinine tags, nothing like this lovely Flemish wall.
