2019 Bike trip around Maldegem you can see the two canals.

One of the best-known views from the region is the Schipdonkkanaal and the Leopoldkanaal, popularly called the "Blinker" and the "Stinker". From Stobrugge (Maldegem) to the sea, these two canals run fraternally (or sisterly as you want) next to each other and that creates a unique landscape. Both waterways are separated from the land and each other by a sturdy dyke, surrounded by stately poplars. The trees are perfectly aligned, it is so beautiful that someone once called this "a cathedral of trees". A cycle path runs along the Schipdonkkanaal, along which you can hardly count the number of cycling tourists in good weather who want to enjoy nature and the view in this unique environment. The shoreline vegetation is the perfect base for an ambush of the Great Blue Heron, which you can see regularly at work here. Cormorants, ducks and other water birds will also find something here. The verges have their specific plant growth and are the habitat for various small mammals.

I hope that you enjoy it
