Photographer's Note
This picture is actually in Honduras in the state of Nuevo Paraiso, which is near the border with Nicaragua. There is no category for Honduras... so here we are.
This is a child from a settlement called "Nuevo Esperanza" which means, "New Hope". The settlement is made up of 200 families that were displaced during Hurricane Mitch in 1998. Thousands died and Honduras was setback decades.
Nuevo Esperanza is one of several projects made possible by Sister Rosa Maria Leggoll. Many affectionately know her as "The Mother Theresa of Honduras".
With the help of the Sister's humanitarian group, Sociedad Amigos de los Ninos, the 200 families were transplanted from the capital to the country where they built their community with their bare hands.

Children are good objects for picture. Your picture is moving me... so i thik it is very good if someones works raising positive feelings. The only think i would like to see it better is the angle... better if you take picture for children from their level... here is a little bit to high... anyway i like it :)

She's got a very sweet face, but the shot is oversharpened or something that gives it a lot of noise. I played around with it a little and ran it through NeatImage. It helped even out her skin and the background quite a bit. If you enable the workshop, I'll upload it.
Interesting note, by the way.

Really a tragic picture of a little person who has not been born on the bright side of the life. Very strong portrait where the little teardrop underlines this powerfull portrait.

Such a sadness in those eyes!
It's a beautiful but terrible image...
PS: I've added the picture to my Regards d'Enfants Theme. I hope you won't mind.

I like it very much. Actually, shooting from above her eye level enabled you to convey more feelings (she looks sad and overwhelmed). Excellent to show these pictures along with your note: it is great to hear they are receiving help.

Poignant photojournalism style. The eyes staring upwards towards the camera and the viewer are moving. The water on her face accentuates a gravity, even creating a tear. Well done.

A wonderfully moving character shot. So emotional, telling a real story.

A good protrait but a very sad picture. The sadness in the girls eyes is almost palpable. Good work. Ian
