Photographer's Note

My country is in the middle of a serious political crisis, due to the suspension of municipal elections that were to happen Feb. 16. Since there, civil protests have been happening in many major cities, especially in Santo Domingo, around the Plaza de la Bandera, one immense landmark that lies just in front of the Central Election Board that failed to held the elections. Protests reached the climax last Thursday, Feb 27, our Independence Day, with a multitude on the tens of thousands asking for explanations and transparency. In my whole 51 years, I've never seen my people react with such force, with such passion, away from political bias. These days have been extremely important for the Dominican Republic. A new spirit of social responsibility has emerged and I'm part of it.
