Photographer's Note

The bronze sculpture of the archangel Michael stands on the tomb of President Jose Miguel Gomez, at the Cristóbal Colón cemetery in Havana. The figure, on a raised pedestal, completes the work. This sculpture is unique in the cemetery. It was made in 1910 by the Italian sculptors Bueoni and Buoneiralomi, who wanted to emphasize in the figure, which gives its forehead to the wind, the agitation of their hair and clothes, without altering the serenity of their face. The archangel holds a sword in his hands, a symbol of death among the military.
