Photographer's Note

The last obstacle was overcomed. The Hawkesworth Bridge was the last missing link on the highway from Belize City to Flores, Guatemala. Built in 1949, it also linked San Ignacio, the second largest town of the country, with the rest of Belize. It is an impressive piece of architecture and surely a beautiful sight for me in what I considered to be a random, remote city in the middle of the jungle. But it's a beautiful city and this bridge is just a two minute walk from the "5-pointed intersection" which marks the touristic center. Yes, you won't be alone, but it's not exactly full of gringos either. There are also some of the most remarkable maya ruins of Belize just a 15 minutes drive away.
