History frozen in time,

Khiva is one of the most well preserved walled medieval cities in Central Asia - a Unesco world heritage site used to be a centre of Islamic learning and spirituality. It's small and compact and due to its remote location makes it feel more authentic and has an incredible charm to it almost untouched by the Commie Hammer & Sickle influence. The historical city is a gem and walking in is like traveling in time with historic monuments everywhere. Taken on a diffused & cold late afternoon with the commanding look of Islam Khodja Minaret

If I would imagine the 1001 nights fairy tales, I would imagine it all happened here.......

The colorful minaret contrasts well against the rather drab brown mud bricks of the rest of the complex. Good sharpness and the people add scale. Tfs!

Hello Abmdsudi,
The minaret with its mosaic work makes a lovely and interesting focal point, to which we are directed along the narrow little street. The group of people enliven the scene and provide scale. The sky was not really on your side, but this has not harmed the colours and well rendered textural detail.

Un très bel endroit plein d'histoire qui ressort bien malgré le temps gris. La tour est belle dans son environnement de murs de briques.

A beautiful view of this old medieval city. The brick architecture is so wonderful and the street leads the eye so well to the grand minaret and its wonderful details and decorations. I like the peaceful mood around these quiet streets.

what i love about TE is learning about new places, now I can put this place on that list as well. To star with i didn't realize Uzbekistan is in Asia...i must re-look at my globe again. Not very many people here, but there are a few. Is it often this empty or is it just the weather? the light sky and diffused light made your focal point stand out even stronger. this is great! love to see it in person. cheers

yes your reportage doe make it feel as an illustration for fairy tales from the East.
Very impressive ruins with the tower adding a characteristic point to focus on, so uniquely shaped, so charming.
Also the people are good scale markers here.
