Closeup up view of turquoise fluted dome & truncated minaret of the huge Sher-Dor Madrasah - an impressive building situated in front of an enormous Registan Square, which also concludes in itself Ulugbek and Tilya Kori well peserved - restored madrassahs.

This centerpiece situated in heart of the ancient Samarkand, most noted for its central position on the Silk Road between China and the West, and for being an Islamic centre for scholarly study for many centuries.

In the 13th century, Samarkand became the capital of the Empire of Amir Timur - the Conqueror of Central Asia.
