Photographer's Note

Before going to Uzbekistan, I read that from Samarkand to Shakhrisabz is 80 km and there is a train connection. So I decided to go by train. I bought my ticket and was a bit surprised. First, the ticket was expensive - 7 dollars, when for the rip to Bukhara, 250 km I paid 6 dollars. Secondly, the very fast Aphrosiyob train went there for 2 hours.
The train ride was very comfortable. Again, I was a bit scared when I saw in my GPS where we went. We went through Qarshi. But finally I was in Shakhrizabs. For my return, I took the shared taxi. (It is the taxi that waits till there are 4 persons going in the same direction and then everyone pays the shared fee. It is the cheapest and the best way to travel in Uzbekistan.).
And here you see the solution of the puzzle. 80 km was through the mountains, 1780 m elevation.
By train from Samarkand to Qarshi 145 km and then to Shakhrisabz 120 km more. Funny :)

The driver was very kind, he stopped for pictures and in the market.
It was a bit stupid of me to go like this, but it was an interesting adventure. I liked it.

See the place on the map. You can also see how the train went long way through Qarshi.
