Photographer's Note

The city of Shakhrisabz lies to the south of Samarkand and was the home town of Timur the ruler behind the splendour of Samarkand. His empire covered much of central asia as well as Persia (now Iran)and beyond and even the north of India. In the 14th century he built a magnificent palace in Shakhrisabz. This is what remains - unlike many other ancient buildings in Uzbekistan it has not been restored. You can see how tall these parts are by the size of the people. It was evidently double that height. The arch linking the 2 parts collapsed 200 years ago.
