Photographer's Note

Taken this morning around 7:15 am at Samae San harbour. I had been awake since 3 am with my normal insomnia, and once 5 am rolled around and the sky was looking pretty clear with the full moon and last night’s lunar eclipse, I decided I had better make the one hour motorbike trip to Samae San. It was actually unusually cold for Thailand although it is December, but the extra two shirts were enough.

It took a while for the sun to emerge from some clouds in the east, but soon after I found this boat and I knew I was in trouble. Great blue sky, beautiful clear light, and all that orange!! Oh my God, snap, a junky! You know how it goes with digital; they are free. But what do we ever do with all these photos that no one sees?

And what will these poor fishermen do with all these plastic containers that their mates are hurling up from the dock now empty? No problem! Within the space of thirty minutes they had them all stacked neatly up on the roof. The whole crew of this particular boat were from Myanmar! (By the way, it really was that orange, no saturation added!)
