Photographer's Note

Taprobane Island at Weligama Beach, southern Sri Lanka.

This is the only privately-owned island in the country. Hidden within the trees is a 95 year old house, now a hotel. It looks like something out of fantasy novel.

The only access is by wading across at low tide, or small dingy when the water is up and choppy.

Taprobane has played host to royalty, celebs, and rich socialites over the years, and looks every bit the eccentric colonial's mad playhouse.

I took this with my iPod, as I was too deep in lazy seaside village mode to mess around with my slr.
