Photographer's Note

This shot was taken in front of Cheongwadae Sarangchae, a new museum and exhibition space about the current and former presidents of the Republic of Korea.

Cheongwadae Sarangchae was opened on January 5, 2010, the two-story exhibition and museum space was designed to be more environmentally friendly than most by harnessing the power of solar and geothermal energy, thereby reducing the use of fossil fuels. It’s a fitting response to Korea’s ambitious goal to reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent by the year 2020.

The word “sarangchae” refers to a detached room in traditional Korean manors where men would entertain fellow male guests.
