Photographer's Note

Every temple has a place where discarded and broken Buddha images can be stored.
To the people, it would be disrespectful and unlucky to throw them away. They slowly rot away in caves or in back rooms of temples, set apart for their storage. There is even a little ceremony for disposing of a broken image. The storage room is in the back of the sala and Wat Xiang Tong in Luang Prabang. It contains many broken or discarded votive images and people still come to pay respect to them.
