Photographer's Note

Walking through the temple courtyards at dusk, the novices and young monks are sitting out, enjoying the cool breeze. They are very pleased to stop any passing foreigner and engage in a chat. Even if you don't speak their language, they are keen to practice their English. I stopped and chatted to these three young monks on the steps of their bot. Foreigners are often shy and have no idea how much the monks would love to talk to them, if they only try. One twist to the story of this picture is that last September I was stopped by a young monk, on the campus of my university. He asked me if I remembered him. He was one of these three monks, the one on the left and he remembered me taking his picture.
