Photographer's Note

I have been to Tokyo last May and other three times since 2003. I have spent in Japan about 2 months during 4 different trips. After having seen many different cities, I have to say that Tokyo is probably my favourite city. I like the way you can go from crowded places such as Shinjuku and Shibuya to quit neighborhood such as Shimokitazawa or Kichijoji. I like the way you can move from place to place virtually anywhere using subways and trains like Yamanote line or Keio line. I also like the way the city is organised and clean. And the dimensions are smaller than European cities, i.e. you can walk and move by public transport and enjoy it by seeing how the places changes, the small houses and how sometimes the shops and buildings are so dense yet you don't feel lost or lonely as life is everywhere. This photo depicts a moment while waiting just in front of Hamamatsucho station on the Yamanote line (south of Shimbashi and Tokyo station). Sun had already set.
The Tokyo tower in the distance, the sky is a clean spring sky , somehow windy in those days.
You may notice even more in the distance what I believe is Mori tower in Roppongi Hills.
Green traffic lights turned all at the same time (and red after a few moments!). I used to stay in a hotel nearby and go often to Hamamatsucho station to move. Places to see near Hamamatsucho include:
- Kyu-Shibarikyu Onshi Teien gardens
- Hamarikyu-teien/Ginza 8-chome, Chuo-ku, Tokyo
- Tokyo tower (have to walk a little to the west, maybe 10-15 min)
- Shiodome (although Shimbashi on Yamanote line is a closer station) with a large commercial area of shops , restaurants including Caretta Shiodome.
