Photographer's Note

Last year just after the monsoon was over, we had been to North of West Bengal: Cooch Behar, Dooars area. The forests there in the North and north east of Bengal are beautiful green and often not much frequented by usual tourists. Lots of interesting flora and fauna you get to see. Hiring a car and moving through the deep forests like 'Chilapata', 'Jaldapara', 'Gorumara', 'Raja Bhatkhaowa' are quite an experience. You get to hear the sound of silence; the pecuiliar shrill monotonous and often haunting welcome sound of a kind of crickets make you feel that you are already in a different world. If you are not that unfortunate, you can see wild elephants, rhinos, deer, different species of birds, monkeys, bisons etc. (either all or some of them). Take a train from Kolkata (Sealdah or Howrah Rly stn.) towards New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and beyond (towards Cooch Behar, Assam) and it takes hardly around 8 -12 hours to reach NJP. In this pic. the 'Kanchankanya' Express is entering 'Shukhna' forest immediately after Siliguri station.
