Photographer's Note
‘Kerala - Varkala - The Malabar Coast’
From Mumbai I flew to Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), the capital of Kerala and from the airport I immediately travelled to Varkala located at the Malabar Coast.
I do not particularly like beach holidays but I spent two days (three nights) in Varkala because I found the coastline so beautiful. Varkala encouraged me to make beautiful and long walks along the red cliffs, the coconut palm forests, a lot of smaller, sometimes hidden beaches and fishing villages.
Info from Wikipedia:
The Malabar Coast is a very long coastline in the southwest of the Indian subcontinent.
It runs from the south of Goa over Karnataka and Kerala to the most southern tip of India: Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.
Throughout recorded history from about 3000 BC, the Malabar Coast had been a major trading center in commerce with Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Jerusalem and the Arab world.
Because of the orientation to the sea and to maritime commerce, the coastal cities of Malabar are very cosmopolitan and have hosted some of the first groups of Christians, Jews, and Muslims.

Hallo Paul,
Een prachtig gezicht op de kustlijn. Het is inderdaad een prachtig idyllisch plaatje met de blauwe oceaan en de rij palmbomen langs de smalle strook rotsen. De palmbomen op de voorgrond geven extra diepte aan de foto.

Hello Paul,
I didn't get to this part of Kerala. In fact I didn't see the coastline properly at all, and now I wished that I had because your picture shows how lovely it is. The framing of the trees works very well.

Ciao Paul
questa è una vista più "artistica", le altre due foto del ws sono belle e interessanti, ma qui c'è più estro e il risultato ottenuto è piacevole e di ottimo effetto visivo.
Saluti

Good morning Paul,
The palm trees on the edge of the slope added a marvelous texture to the sea and protecting stones-wall, which I found to be a line of defense from Tzunami & storms.
As usual, a fine presentation.
Have a nice new day,
Ike

Hello Paul,
I haven't been to Varkala but once I spent about the same time at Kovalam, a long beach just south of Trivandrum. They seem to be quite similar places: sandy beaches, small fishing villages, lots of coconut palms. Very nice as a change from the noisy cities. These photos bring back quite pleasant memories and show beautiful sceneries.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Paul,
I just love photographs with attractive f/g features, leading to an interesting b/g. I think this fits the brief perfectly! The trees just fill the f/g with interesting shapes and green hues, with a define inferred sense of movement. Beyond the coast curves away into the distance, with just glimpses of habitations.
Your photographs give an impression of a beautiful, uncluttered natural coast. Even the odd tourist had a huge beach to himself!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Paul
Bonne profondeur de la plage vue d'en haut et entre les palmiers, ce qui lui rend le côté exotique très attirante, belles versions en WS
Bonne journée

Hi Paul,
I like the combination of palm leaves in foreground and tropical beach in the background. The coastline looks quite rocky but I see a smaller beach with people in the distance. Excellent high viewpoint.

Hello, Paul!
The view of this beach is great with these palm trees hiding part of it, giving the impression of an unexplored place, the POV is fantastic! And the colors and sharpness are also very good! Wonderful composition!

Dag Paul,
Mooi werk.
Groet Rob

Hi Paul
I did the Sagalassos tour from a guesthouse in Egirdir in a van with about 11 other people. There were only about 2 other people at the site when we arrived. A beautiful tropical scene here with the glimpses of blue water through the green coconut trees adding charm. Good sharpness and high pov also. Tfs!

Hi Paul,
I like very much the views framed with palm trees and here there are so many of them!
Palm trees are great for framing because they don't hide much but provide a lovely silhouette.
Beautiful coastal view also the ones in the workshops.
It seems like a wonderful spot for beach holidays although it seems quite far to see a beach therefore I am sure not too many people go there for holidays from Europe.
I think it is nice even if someone is not into beach itself -to include it as a variety in the itinerary.
Great reportage,
M

A fascinating view of the Malabar coast, which framed between the wonderful palm trees, creates a panoramic of great beauty.
Good management of both color, lighting and sharpness.
Well done. I love.
Enjoy the weekend.

Hello Paul,
This is a beautiful, tropical scene. I like how we are peaking through the palm trees to see the coast and the water. This part of the coast seems very rocky. Very nice depth in this shot, too.

hello paul, Finally, I am a bit better to write critiques. Marvelous photo with the palms and view of the coast behind them. Like in your SouthAmerican pictures, fantastic nicely saturated colours. Were the colours like this or is it your camera or pp? The colours simply jump to the eyes. A charming composition, we have also a glimpse of a nice house. I also spent two or three days in a place similar to it. But I can't remember where it could be.
Kind regards MAlgo
