Very striking on the Devaraja Market were the heaped piles of colourful powder that was sold.
Again an expression of the love for colours in this country.

Weeks before the Holi festival these powders are already for sale at the market.
Holi is the ‘festival of colours’, celebrated in spring and all across the Indian subcontinent.
People smear each other with colours and drench each other. Water guns and water-filled balloons are also used to play and to colour each other.

I also read that these colourful powders are used to make rangoli patterns in or outside the houses.
Rangoli is an art form in which patterns are created on the floor in living rooms or courtyards. The purpose of rangoli is decoration.

But the face of this young girl was an extra reason to post this picture.
