Photographer's Note

On the road from Lhasa to Namtso Lake there are a couple of passes like this one which has a nice formation of tibetan prayer flags. We can see on the picture tibetan people sending the small prayer flags in the air, which is a local thing to do in order to pray.

Prayer flags are strips of coloured cloth printed with Buddhist prayers. We find them near the top of passes in the mountains and on houses to purify the air and pacify the gods. When the flags flutter, prayers are thought to be released to the heavens.

The colours have a symbolic :
Red represents the element of Fire
Green represents the element of Wood
Yellow represents the element of Earth
Blue represents the element of Water
White represents the element of Iron
