Photographer's Note

This is one of the many small covered tunnels in Kashgar's old quarter that still survived, and designed to protect from the desert sun with centuries of history showing the basic characteristic feature that wind through the Uyghur old quarter with twists and turns like a labyrinth. It's so fascinating to explore this airy and dim but a lively medieval quarter where time's relentless script has spared the passageway from a vanishing way of life.

A maddening traffic jams at rush hours have made life in modern Kashgar as that in Beijing and other huge provincial cities, but this old town of Kashgar has preserved the vibrant hub of Uyghur culture, tradition and their spiritual homes.

A truly magnificent place for photo opportunity testing the exposure to the limit.....
