Back to the old stomping ground...


Xiahe is a town built around one of the biggest monasteries of Tibetan buddism. The monastery is called Labrang and was founded in the early 18th century.

These days the orignally Tibetan town also includes a vast Han (Chinese) section and a sizeable Hui (moslim) community. Though no longer off the beaten track really, it still retains an edge of the world feel to it.


This picture shows a little detail of a temple roof. It is shot from underneath, focussing on the artwork of the wooden beams that make the corner. The blue is the painted edge of the roof sticking out.
