Photographer's Note

A great place to catch a glimpse of Uyghur way of life at this renowned open-air livestock market in Kashgar along the ancient Silk Road which has been around for two millennia. Thousand of farmers from all around
the province come with their animals to sell them, some have one cow or donkey to trade, while others bring a truck full of sheep, horses and even camels. The scale of this market is remarkable and this hectic place is not only for commerce, but it's also for socializing, catching up with family and friends, gossiping etc. etc, It's at the very heart of Uyghur tradition.

I arrived early in a cold foggy morning while some locals were still busily arriving with their livestock, and this is a small panorama of buyers and sellers haggling over this lined of goats. Intriguing how these woolies are tied head to head on a rope - see additional pic - and it does look quite cozy for the animals but very organized for buyers.

Exploring this chaotic place is a heart-pulsating affair indeed.
