Photographer's Note

Jiuzhaigou (Joe-Jai-Go) is one of the most beautiful areas in China. It is a paradise of picturesque lakes and stunning waterfalls. Jiuzhaigou means "Nine Villages Valley" and is so called because of the nine isolated villages in this scenic wonderland.

Jiuzhaigou has been well known to domestic tourists for the last 20 years but is still almost unknown to Western travellers. It is just starting to be discovered now and is expected to grow in popularity in the coming years.

The park is shaped like a "Y" with the main valley splitting into two smaller branches half way up. At the top of the western branch at an altitude of 3,150 metres is Long Lake. Its clear blue waters surrounded by Alpine scenery make for an almost magical landscape.
