This view of the Slangkop Lighthouse was taken from the main road running through Kommetjie. The lighthouse is situated just outside Kommetjie on the Atlantic seaboard of the Cape Peninsula on the Southern tip of South Africa.
Slangkop is the tallest cast-iron lighthouse in South Africa with a height of 43 meters. The lighthouse went into operation in 1919.
The lighthouse light flashes 4 times every 30 seconds and has a range of 33 sea miles.
The lighthouse was erected to warn ships of the rocks in the region.
