Photographer's Note

Taung is a railhead town, in the middle of nowhere, in an arid part of North-West Province. In the well-kept parts of town, the gardens have a look that seems inspired by Zen monks, in their raked-sand minimalism.

About 20 or 30 km from Taung, in a limestone quarry in the small town of Nerlim, the skull of the Taung Child, a massively important Australopithicus Africanus fossil was discovered in the mid 1920s.

The title comes from a line in the Jimi Hendrix composition "Red House".
