Photographer's Note

018 / Sunrise at Mahébourg, Mauritius

Mauritius began with Mahébourg, but seems to have left it far behind. Site of the island's first colonial settlements, and once its busiest harbour, this east coast town now carries the air of a laidback fishing village, long overshadowed by the trade and tourism fuelled developments elsewhere on the island. The sleepy vibe compliments an authentic local flavour and a spectacular setting between imposing mountains and a crystalline lagoon, all together offering a refreshing antidote to the typical resort and spa routine. And if there's still any room for doubt, try waking up to the view of a rising sun hits incoming rain clouds and reflect in the still waters of the coral protected lagoon.
