Photographer's Note
I have tried an unconventional framing here using the vertical row of Egyptian Gods at right as the main vertical line. The one with the double crown hat is Amun. There is a collection of ankhs depicted at far right. This arch was in deep shadow so I deliberately changed the exposure setting to slightly overexpose the bottom left corner as a trade off. It was 46c. I have added a workshop showing the entire gate for context.
This south arch to Karnak is rarely visited by tour groups who tend to congregate around the main hypostyle hall in the distance.

Bonjour, cher Chris,
Parfait pour contempler les inscriptions (encore faut-il savoir les lire).
C'est tout simplement superbe.
Détails formidables.
Amitiés.

Hello Chris,
For me, your composition works very well.
We have excellent details of the carvings (if only I could read hieroglyphs) and a most effective composition.
The negative space is as important as the positive.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Chris,
I really don't remember if I made it as far as to this south arch, even though I was here on my own. You captured this well. The slight overexposure in the corner means nothing compared to the crystal clear and sharp view of the gods and hieroglyphs. This photo has a strong character of 3D.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour Chris,

Amicalement

Hello Chris, Interesting picture. It seems that the gods have here destroyed faces, maybe by muslims . The same I saw in Philae. The God near Amun can be Ra, with the sun. Some of them have ankhs in their hands. I remember I was with a friend somewhere off the mostly visited area. A man working there wanted to sell us something he had found in excavation. I made a thought experiment. Suppose the object was genuine, then to buy it would be crime. And it it was fake, why to buy? So of course I didn't buy.

Hello Chris,
Excellent close-up on the ancient Egyption hieroglyphs and paintings. Good choice to leave some portion of teh picture to the sky. Distinct sharpness collected.
Have a nice friday,

Hi Chris
Quite an experience getting to this fascinating spot: the wall does show off the immense size while the heiroglyphics boost the visual impact as main focal of interest. Very well captured shot, Congrats
Best wishes

Hi Chris
wow, yeah thats a pretty big gate alright! Glad you posted it as it really does help put everything into perspective.
46 degrees huh, I bet you wont be booking anything in June for Egypt ever again!!! haha, your skin must have been sizzling just standing in the sun for 5 min.
I experienced that in Vegas once. It was probably in the low 40's, and I didn't put any sunblock on deliberately, just to see what would happen. I literally felt the skin in my forehead sizzle and get super hot within 5 min of direct constant sunlight. I got the experience I wanted, just out of curiousity, then i put on my sunblock lol.
I can only imagine how hot it was here! yikes.
Don't sit on the leather!
Very cool subjects to view. Its hard to even imagine these being real, but they are. what a unique culture, and to think what their buildings and cities looked like in their prime is something that is so hard to comprehend. so different than today. cool shot in the shade.
cheers

Great photo of this elegant monument with all the textures so well captured. Good choice of exposure, it's much more important to get the stone surface right than the bit of sand in the corner.
Best wishes
