Photographer's Note

The White desert or Sahara el Beyda is located somewhere between Farafra and the Bahariya oasis in the Sahara desert in Egypt. I arrived there in the evening and since the twilight was fading into orange tinges, I could only make out bizarre silhouettes around me. As the friendly Bedouins started to set up camp and refused all help, I lay down on the cool sand and gazed at the myriad constellations twinkling above us. Shooting stars whizzed by across the large sky. Soon the moon rose and dimmed light of even the brightest stars.
I rose before the sun the next morning to notice the strange white forms all around. A few moments of bewilderment were necessary for me to take in the mesmerising beauty of the landscape surrounding me. A fiery ball of orange that was the sun rose above the chalk sculptures as large-eared Fennec foxes scuttled away. A night in the spectacular White desert national park is one not easily forgotten.
