Photographer's Note
The reconstructed ruins of Abu Simbel depicting Ramesses II were built between 1264 - 1244 BC to commemorate victory over the Hittites at the battle of Kadesh in present day Syria. They were moved in 1968 to prevent being submerged by the Aswan High Dam.
Here's a shot taken in 1923 at the original location so they have done a good job replicating it here.

The 2nd statue from the left apparently collapsed during an earthquake not long after it was completed. You can see the ear and head in front of the damaged statue.

Hello Chris,
Oh, I'm so wishing I could be there!
But, you have given us an excellent guide from the f/g to the entrance of this amazing monument! WE can understand the size, we can see the shapes and we can easily be overawed by what we see!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Bonjour, cher Chris,
Cette reconstitution du Temple semblait être une gageure, et pourtant, quel travail réalisé sauvé des eaux.
Une magnifique réalisation.

Hello Chris,
This is an impressive place and it is still almost incredible to imagine how these giant sculptures were cut into pieces, moved and reassembled. This photo shows the entire place, it's perfectly exposed and the figures at the entrance give us a good idea of the dimensions.

Gert

Good evening Chris,
Superb frontal perspective upon the mighty statues, scaled by the two person at the entrance.
Visible every small element on the scene.

Hello Chris, what a fantastic sight; an excellent viewpoint.
Those two people are an essential element to the composition, helping us to realise the scale. What an amazing feat of building and sculpting this was.
Regards Jean.

Hello Chris,
Since I was a kid I have seen similar pictures and always I found this view very impressive. The inclusion of the two people in front of the entrance give me the same feeling.
I still find the story of the displacement of this temple very fascinating.
Blut I also remember that when I visited Abu Simbel I was less impressed. Was it because of the large number of visitors at that moment ? I don't know. Inside the temple I surely was disappointed. Sometimes the expectations become too big over the years.
Anyway, this is a very beautiful picture of Abu Simbel taken on a very quiet moment.
Best regards, Paul

Hello, Chris!
These figures sculpted on the rocks look incredible, and you captured them with excellent light and textures! The monochromatic scene makes a very nice contrast with the blue sky! The people near the entrance are a good scale to the image! Wonderful place and composition!

Hi Chris,
spectacular architecture or work of art!
I had the pleasure to visit this temple as well. I don't have great photos from this place though also because I was there in a crowd of tourists :(
Lovely frontal symmetry here, and the two people in the centre allow to better imagine the scale of this structure.
Excellent work,
M

Hello Chris,
It is a lovely photo of these ancient ruins. I like the vivid colors, the symmetry and your POV using the wooden walkway as a lead-in.
