Photographer's Note

Several years ago I was driving in Egypt towing a trailor that got hit from behind by an old Mercedes taxi. The main shaft of the trailor buckled, but local help was at hand.

Just a few minutes down the road was a little workshop, ran by kids who knew their stuff. Within 15 minutes the buckled part of the shaft had been chopped off and welded back together again.

What was most amazing was that the oldest guy who you can see in the picture was probably no more than 15. In the UK I doubt anyone would even let a 15 year old near a welding machine!
