Photographer's Note

"Jogar futebol"... Yesterday's football game (Angola-Portugal) reminded me about those kids who spent their nights and days playing soccer just below my window in Luanda few years ago.

Under the hard afternoon light or around 6:00 PM when the sun did disappear in a matter of minutes, there were always a bunch of kids on the playground, spending their energy playing with the ball.

Despites the nice houses at the entrance of that school on the right side, most of them did live in the "Musseques", those shanty town you see in the background, no street, no running water and more impressively : no electricity apart few generators for one or two hours. Indeed, once the sun was down below the horizon, it was extremely impressive to feel those thousands people living in the darkeness. For few seconds, you could recognize some shapes when a little bike or a war was passing by but the situation was so bad that you had almost no light in that area apart the reflection of the moon few hours later.

But whatever the conditions, from Luanda's Musseque, to Rio's favelas, I guess nothing will prevent those boys to dream about a brighter future thanks to Football games.

Believe it or not, I don't really like football ;)
