Great batalay 2010-03-14 20:38

Hello Dan,

Mazel tof for the new camera. You've captured the waves crashing onto the rocks at Muir Beach perfectly. I am impressed by the speed of that lens an aperture of f/13 allowing a shutter speed of 1/400 second. That water must be freezing.

Warm regards,

Default To batalay: Just a kit lens

Hi, Bulent -

Funny thing about that lens - it was a kit lens for the Nikon D70. Every time I buy a new body, I just move that lens up. It's still the best overall lens I've got, and I'm sorry Nikon stopped making it years ago. (Their 18-200 VR lens is supposed to be better - and is certainly more expensive - but I find it's not as sharp. That lens is at Nikon now to see if they can do something with it.)

What impresses me about the D90 is partly the speed of capture and processing, and also how much sharper the images are. Another neat thing about it is something I've always wished Nikon would do - it displays the ISO on the top screen. Also, there is an ISO AUTO feature which will raise the ISO as much as necessary to keep a desired minimum shutter speed (for me, that's 1/30). And it's much less noisy.
