I have just been asked about the potential use of some of my images for a magazine in the US and am wondering if anyone has any idea of the 'going rate'
Unfortunately I do not know things like what size the image(s) will need to be, format required, number of images, distribution numbers of the magazine, or anything else to name a few, so I really just need a starting point. Any ideas or references to other places are welcome! Thanks! Cora |

Compared to rates here in switzerland, I think the rate quoted ($100) is quite low. Rates here for a full-size magazine page start at 465 francs (which is slightly less than $465) for a magazine with a 3000 copy disturbution. A large distribution magazine would increase the cost to 1200 francs. +100% if on the cover, +150% if world-wide distribution, +75% if only switzerland and North America. An addition 100% if they want to publish without an author credit.

Here is a link to a site that has a stock photo price calculator.
http://photographersindex.com/stockprice.htm Not perfect but not way off the mark either and i would guess the information on size and circulation etc. that I don't know to the conserative side. |
